Open lecture (1/19) Realism and nationalism with Chinese characteristics: Understanding Chinese foreign policies
Wednesday,January 13,2021January 19, 2021
08:50 AM - 11:20 AM
Online (Zoom)
Speaker: Prof. Wang Yi (Waseda University)
Dr. Wang Yi will give a talk on how particular political ideas, such as realism
and nationalism, have shaped Chinese foreign relations. Despite the partly
contradiction between the theories/ideologies of realism and nationalism, these
two strands of ideas often mix together and dominate China’s public discourse.
This talk will explore why realism and nationalism, rather than other
alternatives, stay exceptionally popular in China and how they frame China’s
understanding of world politics.
