Abstract
The purpose of this lecture is to explore how the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are translated into locally embedded institutional practices through advanced science and technology, and to critically reflect on the challenges and tensions involved in this process. Focusing on the case of Centurion University of Technology and Management (CUTM) in Odisha, India, it draws on qualitative fieldwork to examine how technological innovation is integrated with education, community engagement, and regional development. The lecture highlights how abstract global goals are operationalized, negotiated, and stabilized within specific institutional settings, while also drawing attention to the tensions, selective alignments, and trade-offs that emerge in this process.
