RCGLE opened in 2018, succeeding the Research Center for Japanese Language Education (RCJLE) established in 1991. The Center publishes an annual bulletin, develops teaching materials and methods, and conducts research on language education. The Center also runs the 'Summer Courses in Japanese.'

● Summer Courses in Japanese (SCJ):

This intensive six-week program has a history of almost 50 years. Starting in early July, it provides a stimulating environment in which students can increase their understanding of Japanese language and culture. About 100 students from 20 or so different countries participate in the SCJ every summer. In addition to the program's 15 weekly periods of intensive Japanese language instruction, the course also offers culture programs. Students in the SCJ program stay in dormitories on campus or with Japanese families off campus or other off-campus dormitories to experience life in Japan.

We publish the annual journal "ICU Studies in Japanese Language Education" every March. The articles can be downloaded from ICU Repository and CiNii .
