Summary of lecture:
In 2025, the University Hall(honkan) was registered in 2025 as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property, following the Taizanso and the East Wing of D-kan. Over the past decades, Japan has seen a growing cultural appreciation for buildings constructed after World War II, and many of ICU's buildings have also come to evaluate their cultural and historical significance. Reflecting on the history of the honkan, its past evaluations, and the recent renovation work, we consider the preservation and utilization of 20th century architecture.
