History of Urban Planning and Development in Middle East
(中東諸国における都市計画・発展の歴史について)
The Middle East has a long urban tradition, embracing Damascus, Istanbul and Cairo, some oldest cities in the world history. Middle Eastern cities have been planned and developed in various historical and socio-economic contexts in pre- and post-independence periods. These cities are now facing immense pressures from massive influx of refugees caused by political instability in the region. This presentation intends to clarify the history of urban planning and development in the Middle East, with special reference to some cities in Syria.
世界史上最古の都市に数えられるダマスカスやイスタンブール、カイロにみられるように、中東における都市の歴史は非常に長い。それぞれの都市は様々な歴史的・社会経済的な文脈の中で発展し、そして計画されてきた。近年は、紛争による大規模な難民の発生とその受け入れ等、この地域の都市は大きな課題に直面している。本報告では、特に紛争が長引くシリアの事例を中心に、中東諸国における都市計画・発展の歴史を紐解いてみたい。
