Rage and Resilience, a queer/feminist reading group
Monday,January 20,2025CGS will be holding a reading group on the topic of rage as power.
In times of uncertainty, marked by ongoing violence and the hateful rhetoric of world leaders, many of us feel powerless, afraid, and angry. But how can we channel that anger? In this reading group, we will explore works that examine anger as a source of power and resilience.
We begin with a reading of Susan Stryker’s iconic essay My Words to Victor Frankenstein Above the Village of Chamounix: Performing Transgender Rage. Initially presented as a performance piece, Stryker reflects on her feelings of rage stemming from her experience of transphobic discrimination. She employs her personal narrative to foster self-affirmation, engage in intellectual exploration, and advocate for political action.
(We will provide copies of the text in both English and Japanese)
