【Decolonising the “Human”】Special Lecture
Hiroshi YASUI
“The Politics of Intersections between Animals and Colonialism: A Consideration of Cases from Israel”
In recent years, animal rights have received increasing social attention in Israel. This public talk will examine this recent movement and analyze how it has been linked to discourses that assert the superiority of the Israeli state and ongoing colonialism. While paying attention to the political changes since the 7th of October 2023, this talk will focus on how the already existing politics in Israel over animals continues to be closely tied to already existing institutional structures and violence against Palestine.
Hiroshi YASUI (Assistant Professor, Bureau of Human Empowerment, University of Tsukuba)
Yasui is specialised in feminist/queer theory (gender and sexuality studies) and critical animal studies in Israel and Palestine. His main research interests are 1. sexual politics, 2. politics over animals, 3. nationalism, and how these three are interlocking.
