【Decolonising the “Human”】 Special Lecture
Janis Cherry
Living Coetaneous and Yet Different Genocidal “Every Day”
Disregarding Israel's occupation of Palestine or apartheid policy, LGBT-related businesses in Tokyo, the capital of Japan, such as Rainbow Pride and Pride House Tokyo, have been supported by the Israeli Embassy and cooperated with Israel's cultural foreign policy, which has been criticised as pinkwashing. The situation cannot be separated from the demand for security brought simultaneously by Japan's military and foreign policy, including changes in security-related legislation since the 2010s, and praise of superficial "diversity" under the pretext of the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, which was scheduled for 2020 and held in the following year. In this talk, I will talk about my experiences of (non)participating in activism, focusing on the activities of a project "Queering Futsu-no-LGBT", and also the BDS movement as an international solidarity movement with Palestine.
