「中国化」として考える―新たな歴史認識と現状分析
(On the Concept of Sinicization (chugoku-ka):
New Historical Paradigms and the Understanding of Present-day Realities)

Yonaha Jun is the author of a provocative new book: Chugokuka suru Nihon: Nittchu “bunmei no shototsu” issen-nen shi (The Sinicization of Japan: A Thousand Year History of the “Clash of Civilizations” between China and Japan), Bungei Shunju, 2011. From the dust jacket of the book: “Is Japan’s ‘progress’ at a dead end? In the aftermath of the 3/11 disasters, the old paradigms of ‘Westernization,’ ‘Modernization,’ and ‘Democratization’ have fallen by the wayside. New keywords such as ‘Sinicization (chugokuka)’ and “Return to the Edo Period” and new story lines such as the Sinicization of Japan have emerged.” The book is advertised as a “useful history of modern Japan.”
Professor Yonaha will introduce his book and discuss his concept of Sinicization. He is looking forward to active engagement with members of the audience.
