Imperial Reflections: The Perspectives of Japanese Protestant Women on Japan’s Empire

Japanese Protestants facilitated Japanese imperialism, and as part of that effort Japanese women sought agency and grappled with the promises, obligations, and incoherencies of empire. Japanese Protestant women, among the most well-educated, outspoken and politically active in Japan, provided moral support for imperialism and maintained links between Japanese women in the metropole and women in the greater Japanese empire.
