Do other libraries have Automated Storage
and Retrieval Systems?
Over the past decade, a number of academic
libraries have installed Automated Storage
and Retrieval Systems to handle the growth
of their physical collections. North American
libraries that are currently using ASRS technology
include California State University, Northridge;
California State University, Sonoma; Eastern
Michigan University; and the University of
Nevada, Las Vegas. Traditionally, academic
libraries have used remote facilities to
deal with the storage of library materials,
usually at some distance from campus. Retrieving
items from these facilities can take between
one to three working days and require additional
staff to support these facilities.

Library of Slovenia
Plannes for a new library building are close
to completion. The new building, to be located
near the present one, will be approximately
36,000 square meters. Books will be stored
in three areas. The largest repository, for
about two million volumes, will be situated
underground. It will be equipped with a fully automated storage and retrieval system, which will enable the library to maintain
a low temperature environment. The second
area will consist of closed stacks containing
bookshelves and compactus shelves that can
hold about 500,000 volumes. About 200,000
volumes will be located in an open access
zone.

国際基督教大学図書館では、２０００年９月の運用開始されました。

主な特徴
ダブルコンテナ方式 50万冊規模
出庫指示は、Web-opacから直接行います。
出庫指示後、約2分で、利用可能になります。

建設中、企画中の図書館は、建設後、名称の変更の可能性あります。
ここでは、図書を対象にしたものを自動化書庫システムとしてカウントしています。
ビデオテープに特化したＴＢＳ（日本ファイリング製）、マイクロフィルムを対象にした
明治大学図書館（Daifuku製)は、この集計から除外しています。構造的には、同じと
考えることもできますので、集計の考え方によっては、カウントする集計方法もあります。
日本ファイリング (ＡｕｔｏＬｉｂ Autolibミニ）
（注）ＴＢＳ（東京放送）に導入されている自動化書庫システムは、管理対象資料がビデオテープに特化しているので、
この集計に含めていない。この表では、自動化書庫の増設を1件として集計している。
金剛 （自動書庫 ＢＯＯＫ ＲＯＢＯ）
協大学天野貞祐記念館 は、４，５階に設置。フロアー図面によれば、100万冊収納（規模）か
ダイフク
(注）明治大学図書館にも、同機能のシステムが2001年3月に導入されているが、
管理対象資料がマイクロフィルムに特化されているため、ここでは集計に含めていない。
オックスフォード大学ガゼット（２００５）では、自動化書庫としてリストアップされている。

取り出しクレーン数に対して、処理できるコンテナ倍増する。

内容の一部紹介--------
図書館の中心部に隠されたARSには、図書館の世界で言うところの「暗い秘密」が
ある。それは、蔵書がまったく無造作に保管されているという事実だ。
高さ約14メートルの金属ラックに並べられた箱の中には、図書が乱雑に収納さ
れている。現在このシステムでは、ほとんど読まれることのない定期刊行物やあ
まり世に知られていない本など約23万点が保管されており、これは大学の全蔵書
の約25％に相当する。
それ以上に驚くのが、『デューイ図書十進分類法』を支持する図書館員たち
の、このシステムに対する評価だ。ARSが非常に効率的に機能するのは、この乱雑
さのおかげだというのだ。
「人が不審に思うのは、そこのところだ」と語るのは、この図書館の臨時館長
を務めるバーバラ・バトラー氏。だが「まさにこのおかげで、書棚から何かの本
を取り出したり、戻したりするのに要する時間を短縮できるのだ。特定の場所に
行かずに済む」
ランガナータンのの図書館五原則（１９３１年）にならって
第１原則 図書は利用するためにある。(Books

第２原則 図書はすべての人のために存在する。(Books
are for all)
第３原則 すべての本を読者に。 (Every books,
its reader)
第４原則 読者の時間を節約せよ。（Save the
