To acquire knowledge and learn outside of your own country is indeed a humbling experience. It allows an individual to widen his horizon and discover that there is more to life than living in the box. Studying in ICU creates an opportunity to do such not only learning from the educators but also from people from all walks of life and nationalities. With its beautiful and serene campus, it creates a beautiful backdrop for studying and be in tune with nature. I feel truly blessed and honored. Life has never been this good thanks to the JDS Program for allowing me to experience all of these.

Hi everyone..my name is Phoebe from the Philippines. It has always been my heart’s desire to study abroad and pursue my Master Degree. So when I got the scholarship, I was so thankful to God for this rear opportunity. At first, my family was so apprehensive of me going here in Japan because of the recent March 11 Earthquake and Tsunami devastation but God has greater plan for me. I assured them that if we will just trust everything to Him, He will surely protect us. When I was asked to choose my preferred university, without second thought, my first choice was ICU. The mere fact that it is a Christian university; it was also an international campus making ICU as a multicultural institution where students can meet other race from different countries all over the world. The scenic view of ICU was indeed breathtaking. Who would ever tire of watching the beautiful trees that surrounds the campus, not forgetting the cherry blossoms? They even said that ICU is a university within the forest but I’d like to call it my new paradise. ICU was also one of the prestigious universities here in Japan, where students can acquire a lot of knowledge and skills notwithstanding their facilities e.g. library. I was really awed with the way you can immediately look for references, books you need by just accessing the internet. All in all, I think I would love my stay here and looking forward for the next two years to be fruitful academically and spiritually.

My two-year ICU life has just begun, yet I have already seen the beauty and felt the vitality of the campus, which are virtually everywhere, among numerous huge trees, in the lively classrooms, and on everyone’s smiling faces. These have already made me overwhelmed, but I believe there is still more beauty for me to discover, experience and enjoy.

I think the academic life in ICU would also be interesting and wonderful. Here we have a very good library where there are plenty of books as well as spaces for everyone. Teachers and students are from all over the world, making ICU a splendid multicultural campus where students can be benefited from the accession of different values and ways of thinking. And classes are organized in a way that students play the major role under the guidance of professors.

A respected founder of ICU described this university as “one and only”. Well, he’s got a point. I’m very happy to be in this one and only university.

The idea of going abroad to study may have seemed exciting when I first thought of coming here.  Now that it is a reality, I feel quite concerned. Living so far away from family and friends feels me kind of down in the dumps. But I believe I am in the same boat with the other foreign students.  However, with ICU, there is no need to be being too self-critical.

The Campus is very scenic.  One can feast his eyes on all its natural beauty – the trees, flowers, landscapes, state of the art school facilities and many others.  And you would never feel like a fish out of water because the professors and the administrative staff are very courteous and accommodating.  In ICU, I surely can get the best out of my time here as an international student. Hi, I am Bian, Zuodong from China. I am very glad to introduce my new university ICU, the American educations styles, sound natural environment and native English speaker everywhere…… However, only when you studied in ICU, you could experience the special and impressive charm of the ICU.

As of myself, I will make the research of Public Utilities in China and Japan. The ICU courses including politics, administration and macroeconomics, can meet the requirement of my research and supports me greatly.

I will benefit much from the study method learned from my respected tutor, and the study method could be more important to me than his knowledge and expertise in the public utilities field because learning how to think is more valuable than gaining direct knowledge.

Moreover, methods in Japan might not be implemented in China by rote. On the contrary, tools learned from professors in various principles and majors will be more flexible and useful in solving specific problems in China.
