On September 9th, the APEC intellectual property (IP) symposium "Innovating IP Exploitation" focused on the exploitation of IP rights was organized by APEC and Japan Patent Office (JPO) in Sendai International Center, and coincided with the 31st APEC Intellectual Property Experts’ Group (IPEG) Meeting. Three JDS fellows from China engaged in the IP area participated this symposium.

Officials from IPEG, Japan Patent Office, Tohoku Bureau of Economy, Trade and Industry, Tohoku University, and the Deputy Mayor of Sendai City attended the symposium and extended their welcome addresses. The symposium was led by the IPEG members as well as a number of IP experts from the APEC member-economies, who will conduct multifaceted and multilayered lectures and discussions on the exploitation of IP rights. The issues on the infrastructure for IP exploitation, full utilization of IP rights, and commercialization of IP, which are tightly connected with the three fellows' current research were discussed among the whole day program.
