要約: The movement for accountability in American higher education stoked interest in the assessment of student learning in a key liberal arts objective - critical thinking. In this discussion-based lecture, we will explore the sociology of how higher education in the US determined (a) that critical thinking is an important 21-century skill; (b) what constitutes critical thinking; and (c) the best methods to assess students' development as critical thinkers. We will explore how various ideas, approaches, and players jostled for national attention and how they compete to be the dominant discourse on the American Education landscape.
