FSBC 2012: Program Outline (Leeds)

The information session for 2012 finished on January 17, 2012, and the application deadline is January 31st. If you miss the session, please come to the International Educational Exchange office (A-125) to pick up the application materials right away.A valid TOEFL or IELTS (Academic Module) score report is required for application (here).

    Block 1:
  • The English Country House - A Social History
  • Heretics, Witches, & Conspirators: A History of Fear, 1500-1700
  • The Olympic Games - Sport in the UK
  • Block 2
  • British Literature and the Brontes
  • Building Britain, 1700-1840: Industrial 'Revolution' or 'Evolution'?
  • British Popular Music in the North of England
  • Courses are the first-come basis, and subject to change. You may not able to take the courses you have chosen, depending on availability.
Eligibility Those who have enough English and academic skills to complete the four-week program.
@Cumulative GPA of 2.80 or above
ATOEFL score of 73 (iBT) or above OR IELTS (Academic) score of 5.5 overall or above with minimum of 4 in each skill. All applicants, including native English speakers and September students, must submit their valid TOEFL/IELTS score reports.
Note: Candidates of the AY2012-2013 Exchange/Study-Abroad Programs and Service Learning Program are not eligible.
One cannot apply to the UC Summer Sessions at the same time.
Selection (1) Screening of documents (your GPA, English proficiency test score and essay)
(2) Individual interviews.
We will make a holistic evaluation based on the document and the interview.
Fee and Accommodation
  1. Program Fees: £2,450 (including tuition fees, field trip and excursions, accommodation, social activities and sports centre membership) The cost of flights, insurance and meals is not included.

Additionally, you will be responsible for airfare, insurance, lunch and other misc. costs such as optional excursion fees and your personal expenses.

Other Important Notices
  • Participants will be responsible for their own trips to and from Leeds and any additional trips before and after the program. As of January 2012, a student visa is not required.
  • All participants are required to buy the insurance that ICU specifies. For example, the cost was 5,690 yen for 31 days, 6,180 yen for 34 days, 6,950 yen for 39 days, and 8,080 yen for 46 days in 2011.
  • Once passed the selection process, participants will need to pay for a nonrefundable application fee of 70,000 yen. Leeds Refund Policy will also be applied. Please ask the International Educational Exchange office.
  • Please have your parents' approvals prior to application.
  • You must not miss any deadlines and orientations.
