A safe space in the human mind is the foundation of world peace. This is the theme we will continue to investigate as a part of our Center of Excellence Program. Based on our discussions at the New York Conference, we are reformulating psychodynamic theories with a view to "creating safe space for individuals and groups". In this conference, we will take our endeavors a step further and conduct an experimental workshop of small groups and large community group. Phelix Mendelssohn, a large group professional from Austria, Robi Friedman, a dream work professional from Israel, and Seth Aronson, psychoanalytic specialist from New York, will join us to lead the community and small groups. Psychoanalytic specialists from Pacific Rim countries, including Sabar Rustomjee from Australia and Ta-jen Chang from Taiwan, among others, will join the experimental groups as leaders and researchers. Hidefumi Kotani from Tokyo will organize the experimental groups and round table discussions for theory building from the integrative viewpoint of Psychoanalytic Systems Theory.

Program
Part 1: An Experimental Group Workshop, July 26-27 (closed)
The first part of this program will be an experimental program in which all participants will explore their sense of identity in experiential small groups and in the large community group. Through these efforts in the group process, we will observe various processes for making safe space for individuals, small groups and the whole community. All experiences in this experiment will be discussed and analyzed by group leaders and observers to reformulate an integrated theory of safe space psychodynamics and group dynamics.
Structure of group workshop;
5 small groups: 6 sessions, Large (community) group: 3 sessions
Group leaders: 12 professionals, Group participants: 30- 35 non-clinical subjects

Part 2: Round Table for Theory Building, July 28 (open)
Part 2 consists of a round table discussion, small group discussions, and a large group discussion. We will discuss and clarify the process of creating safe space in the individual, in the small group and the community based on our experiences in Part 1 of this program as well as on our own clinical experience.
