With the following characteristics,
our graduate program in psychology has been designed to train research
psychologists who will be taking a leadership role in academic and
applied research areas domestically and overseas.
1) Given the principles of liberal arts education at ICU, most
up-to-date interdisciplinary
approaches in psychological science are emphasized in studying
contemporary issues
and problems;
2) Rigorous scientific methodology with international and
interdisciplinary collaboration
is encouraged through our graduate training program;
3) Ample opportunities for state-of-the-art research training in
psychology as
science and art are provided in major areas of specialization in
educational
psychology;
4) Intensive research activities and participation are offered in the
fields of
cognitive, developmental, social and community psychology |

The overall goal of both MA and
Ph.D. programs in psychology is to provide instruction and guidance in
the basic concepts, principles, research methods, and applications of
psychology knowledge and techniques to educational, psychological, and
societal problems, not only in schools but in other settings as well
(e.g., various social groups, communities, homes). Psychology majors
are expected to focus on one major area in psychology though all of the
following areas must be included as part of the graduate curricula. For
an M.A. thesis and a Ph.D. dissertation, students are to select either
one of the following areas:
a) Cognition and Development
b) Social Psychology and Community Psychology |
