Introduction
International Christian University began over 50 years ago with our firm commitment to excellence in academic pursuit of truth not trapped within Japan's domestic framework, but through the cooperative efforts of its faculty, students and staff in a truly international, bilingual environment. Furthermore, students are introduced to the existence of God in life and society while not proselytizing is the goal. Thus, the Division of Education in the Graduate School should provide its state-of the-art knowledge and skills in several specific fields of educational research and practice. Normally, a period of five years is required to complete all the requirements for an M.A. degree and a Ph.D. degree in the Division of Education, with the first two-year program leading to a master of arts degree and the second three-year program devoted to complete a Ph.D. degree. Our M.A. programs consist of two major fields and five areas of specialization: (a) Principles of Education (Educational Policy Studies: Philosophy, Comparison and Development, Psychology, and Clinical Psychology) and (b) Methodology of Education (Media and Society, English Language Education). Each area of specialization offers lectures, seminars, and guidance with regard to principles, research methods and application in order to provide students with foundation of practice in school education and other educational fields. Our Ph.D. programs include Principles of Education (Educational Policy Studies: Philosophy, Comparison and Development, Psychology and Clinical Psychology), and Methodology of Education (Media and Society, English Language Education). Two separate areas of Psychology and Clinical Psychology at the M.A. level are integrated as one area as Psychology at the doctoral level.
