Second Year Courses

After completing the first-year courses, second-year ELP students need to take one Sophomore ELP class and the Theme Writing class.

Sophomore English

Sophomore English classes give students further practice using all four language skills (reading, writing, speaking and listening) in academic contexts. There are several different kinds of Sophomore English classes, such as Film Studies: An Introduction; Language and Culture; Characters of the Old West; and American Musical Theater. Theme Writing

Theme Writing is designed to help you learn how to write a documented research paper. The course teaches you effective research skills; how to select and focus on a research topic; how to organize a longer paper; and how to make, support and document an argument. In addition, Theme Writing gives further work on reading and writing for academic purposes and prepares you for writing your final senior-year thesis.
