Joint Research with Washington State University

Coordinator: Norihiko Suzuki
Associate Coordinator: Shin Chiba

In International Christian Universityfs application for the COE Program, we made the formulation of a unified theory on gPeace, Security & Convivialityh in international cooperation a goal. As one part of such cooperation, ICU entered into a collaboration agreement with Washington State University (WSU) in the US. Together the schools will build an all-encompassing collaboration in which teachers and researchers working on the same themes (e.g. Peace Studies, Sociological Surveys and Statistics, Gender Studies, and International Cooperation) can conduct joint research, publish the results in series, and thus elicit the worldfs opinion.

In September 2004, as a joint research project, a group of about 10 researchers from both universities will attend a research meeting at Washington State University. Following their meeting, they will announce what history, contents and problems each of the three outlines gPeace, Security & Convivialityh have in the respective fields, and by clarifying resemblance and diversities their findings will serve as a point of departure for a formulation of a unified theory. Likewise, WSU and ICU will successively promote a wide variety of joint research.

We plan to publish the results as a series from a US publisher.
